Haggin/Elvas to Roseville

From the crossovers at East Haggin (MP 90.6), east of the connectors down to the former Western Pacific Line between Stockton and Binney Junction, it is just over a mile of Three Main Tracks, CTC, 35 mph trackage through an urban area, past a grade crossing, a bridge over a freeway, the line turning from eastward to northeastward, and a signal bridge overhead just west of the junction, to the west leg of the  25 mph wye at Elvas (MP 91.7), where the ex-SP line north from Stockton connects in (from the east, as the Roseville line turns due north). The north leg of the wye at Elvas, where the now-closed tower inside the wye still stands in 2006 (but has gone by June, 2009), is at MP 92.0, after which the number of Main Tracks reduces to Two and the speed limit rises to 50 mph for passenger trains and 40 mph for freights, past a bridge over a freeway on the north curves of the wye, a dirt road grade crossing, a multi-span through truss bridge over the American River, bridges over bike paths, a bridge over a divided street, and a bridge over a freeway.

At Johnston (MP 92.2), industrial tracks from the west connect in to the north track only, and the line turns northeast, past a freeway bridging overhead (dual bridges), a road bridge overhead, a street alongside to the southeast, a road bridge overhead, a bridge over a stream, crossovers at Swanston (MP 93.4), where the speed limit rises to 79-70, as the light rail line comes alongside to the northwest, and later crosses over on a concrete bridge to curve away eastward, and I-80 passes overhead on  dual concrete bridges from west-southwest to east-northeast. There is a spur heading away on the southeast side, additional tracks at Planehaven (MP 97.5), connecting into the erstwhile McClellan AFB (closed July 2001) on the northwest side of the line.

There is a street alongside to the southeast, detectors on both tracks at MP 97.7, a bridge over a street, a road bridge overhead, a spur heading away to the southeast, Intermediate Signals and additional tracks at Walerga (MP 99.4), a road bridge overhead, a road bridge overhead at the crossovers at Citrus Heights (MP 101.3), three tracks on the south side representing the west end of the huge Roseville Yard  (now UP's Jerry Davis Yard), running between Antelope and East Roseville on the southeast side of the main lines, a road bridge overhead, extra track on the southeast side heading into the yard, Antelope (MP 102.6), where the speed limit falls to 40 mph, extra track on the southeast side heading into the yard, eight tracks wide by this point, West Atkinson (MP 104.5), extra track on the southeast side heading into the yard, and East Atkinson (MP 104.7).

There is a bridge over drainage, a road bridge overhead, a Control Point at West Roseville (MP 105.3) on the north track only, the speed limit falls to 30 mph, with extra track connecting into the yard on the southeast side, extra track on the southeast side into the locomotive depot, including a shed, a fuel rack and a large maintenance shed, which extends until right across the main lines from the passenger station, crossovers at East Roseville (MP 106.4), and the passenger station at Roseville depot (MP 106.5, north track only), where the yard on the southeast side has become two sets of three tracks heading fro the east end of the yard. The wye between the lines across Donner Pass and the East Valley Line north to Tehama is immediately east of the depot.
